Edgar Mitchell: An Astronaut's Detour Into Inner Space

"On the way home from the moon, looking out at the heavens, this insight - which I now call a transcendent experience - happened. I realized that the molecules of my body had been created or prototyped in an ancient generation of stars - along with the molecules of the spacecraft and my partners and everything else we could see including the Earth out in front of us. Suddenly, it was all very personal. Those were my molecules.

It was an experience of interconnectedness. It was an experience of bliss, of ecstasy...it was so profound. I realized that the story of ourselves as told by science - our cosmology, our religion - was incomplete and likely flawed. I recognized that the Newtonian idea of separate, independent, discreet things in the universe wasn't a fully accurate description."

The End of Suffering- Russell Targ

Russell Targ is a physicist and author who has devoted much of his professional career to the research of the human capacity for psychic ability. In 1972, he co-founded the Stanford Research Institute's federally-funded program that investigated psychic abilities in humans. The program provided invaluable information and techniques to various government intelligence agencies, including the DIA, the CIA, NASA, and Army Intelligence. In his ten years with the program, Targ co-published his findings in some of the most prestigious scientific journals. He is the co-author, with Jane Katra, of five books about psychic abilities, two of which are: Miracles of Mind: Exploring Non-local Consciousness & Spiritual Healing, and The Heart of the Mind: How to Experience God Without Belief.

Russell was also quite active in the development of the laser and its various applications, having written over fifty articles on advanced laser research. He is a Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical Engineers and has received two NASA awards for inventions and contributions in laser and laser communications. Recently retiring from his position as senior staff scientist at Lockheed Martin, Russell now devotes his time to ESP research and offering workshops on remote viewing and spiritual healing.

In an abstract from a research paper, Russell said, "Since ancient times spiritual teachers have described paths and practices that a person could follow to achieve health, happiness, and peace of mind. A considerable body of recent research indicates that any kind of spiritual practice is likely to improve ones prognosis for recovering from a serious illness. Many of these approaches to spirituality involve learning to quiet the mind, rather than adhering to a prescribed religious belief. These meditative practices are inherent aspects of Buddhism, Hinduism, mystical Christianity, Kabalistic Judaism, Sufism, and other mystic paths. What is indicated in the subtext of these teachings is that as one learns to quiet his or her mind, one is likely to encounter psychic-like experiences or perceptions.

For example, in The Sutras of Patanjali, the Hindu master tells us that on the way to transcendence we may experience many kinds of amazing visions, such as the ability to see into the distance, or into the future; and to diagnose illnesses, and also to cure them. However, we are admonished not to become attached to these abilities - that they are mere phenomena standing as stumbling blocks on the path to enlightenment. In this paper, I will describe my recent experience in teaching remote viewing at three workshops in Italy, in which we emphasize expanded awareness of who we are, rather than an ability to find car keys and parking spaces. Our spiritual approach, did not interfere with all three of these groups demonstrating highly significant remote viewing in a double-blind setting."

“Second Life Provides a New Metaphor”

Even though I was not yet “born” in the virtual world of Second Life yet, I had begun the process of identification with the part I had been designated to play. This, I realized, is how identification takes place in this world too. To begin with, as infants, we don’t know who we are. No one has given us a script yet. We are pure potential, just as all Second Life residents are before they give themselves a form—create their own avatar. And then, after the body has been created, we go about creating our world.

We do this in everyday life just as we do in a virtual world or a dream world. But the remarkable part about engaging in Second Life is that you can actually watch the identification process as it happens, at least if you arrive (download the software and create yourself) with the awareness that you are not yet identified with anyone or anything.

Looking for 'Brahmn'

The effect of ‘maya’ is powerful. With so many versions of spirituality, however, looking for ‘Brahmn’, the Supreme Consciousness, is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

The present age, kalyug , was predicted to witness the downfall of dharma . To some, spirituality is a means to attract maya instead of a way to remove bondage. Then there are others who consider art superior to penance and bhakti .

Yoga does not distinguish between different paths to achieve the Divine; so there is no question of debating over which path is superior. Patanjali has given forms, all culminating in yoga or union with the real self, none superior to the other. However, the various limbs or aspects are being picked up in isolation by some practitioners and propagated as the only means to achieve the Divine; we need to be aware of this and take care.

All gods or devtas are forms of energies. They each go through a phase of transition and play their role in governing some aspect of Creation. They operate beyond our senses; hence the question of pleasing them with dance or drama or any physical exercise does not arise. For a yogi, entire Creation unfolds as drama.

The ultimate purpose is to realise the drama and not get affected by scenes and acts. The need is to rise above karma. That’s what Krishna emphasised through his leela , not getting affected or attached with the play. This is called nishkama karma or karma free of attachment, that is, free of pain and pleasure. This is the underlying message of the Gita .

Changing Beliefs, Raising Frequencies

If human consciousness allows itself to be manipulated through fear-based and trauma-based systems (entrenched in our media, entertainment and news broadcasts) then the Control System can implant a reality of its own that keeps us self-limiting and passive. We are just cabling for their network.

Breaking the trance and going through the cognitive dissonance is hard. But once through the other side, the profound insight and enhanced awareness are deeply liberating and a source of immense internal power. All the messed up, gloomy socio-political problems like immigration, crime, health, housing, war, economy, education – they all begin to make sense. They aren’t a mess because the government is inept, they are a mess by design. To keep the wheels turning and the workers working. Keep em busy. A life’s work to own a house. A decent pension right at the end if you’re lucky. Madness. Inhumanity. Once you have the ‘coordinates’ (the magic codes that make sense of all the surface weirdness), everything begins to slot into place. The mist of confusion evaporates. You can see. And the Control System coordinates are horribly uncomplicated: 99% of the planet lives in a consumer plantation designed to provide physical and spiritual slave labour to an elite few. A Control System exists to maintain and protect the system. The best metaphor for it can be found by watching The Matrix.

Imagination is our holographic engine. It makes the world. Literally. If our imagination is running someone else’s program, we are living in someone else’s dream. It is time to take control and observe how manipulated scientific and religious dogma has misled us about how our world actually functions. Time is not linear. We are not hopeless wanderers in a cold lifeless universe. We do not cease to exist when the body (the bio-suit) is finished. Life is a progression of many lives, many consciousnesses and many worlds. This is one of them. You are one story; one piece of cosmic consciousness. Indestructible. We are designed to interact with the universe by articulating and encoding it with our wisdom, love, intent and creativity. These are things of galactic significance. Not nice-to-haves.

Do not let someone else’s belief system restrict your imagination. No religion, no government, no teacher can guide you better than you can guide yourself. The very act of comprehending the nature of our creative consciousness undermines the Control System by raising the frequency of consciousness out of the manipulation field and into inspired independence. I believe, as others have for millennia, that the outer world is a direct reflection of our own private inner consciousness. When a critical mass of people understand that the game is not a good game anymore, that there is a better way of living and evolving, then the awesome synchronous power of the universe begins to paint a new world into being.

The Cleaver

Ode

“We are the music-makers,
And we are the dreamers of dreams,
Wandering by lone sea-breakers,
And sitting by desolate streams;
World-losers and world-forsakers,
On whom the pale moon gleams:
Yet we are the movers and shakers
Of the world for ever, it seems.”

From ‘Ode’ by Arthur O'Shaughnessy

The Secret To Life

So what is the secret to life?

The secret to life is to know yourself, for if you do, you will be able to reveal your true nature.
You will recognize and do away with the old outdated version that you have of yourself and replace it with something full and whole. This something whole is the true you, the consciousness that you are. For if we take away the body and the lower tendencies of the mind - what do we have left? Your true self.
Your true self does not want, does not judge, does not lie, is neither jealous or capable of hating - for these are aspects of the lower nature of man and not of his true being.
The experience revealed by touching or glimpsing this higher nature is something that will change you forever.
For this is the way in which man can get to know his own soul, the purest reflection of the divine in man. And this soul it is not something which is difficult to know, for you are already it.
The problem most people have is that they have disguised and cloaked over this soul with limited information, memories and experiences. The way forward is to strip back the layers which hide the true you, revealing the essence residing at the heart of all being.
When we understand the elements of our being, we can then begin the journey towards uniting them and becoming holistic beings. Becoming holistic beings necessitates the knowledge of all of our parts and abilities. Can you recognize these parts within yourself? If you do you will begin to glimpse something deeper and fuller within you which is undeniable and true. The heart of your being, the source of what you are.
When you touch this source, you will experience what the mystic's label as oneness - the interconnectedness of all things. Sharing that experience is the most powerful expression that a human being can give to their lives. For by doing so, they are bearing their souls in order to share true experience. This sharing moves others to seek and find their souls - the real secret to life.

Life is like a movie beamed on a screen

Swami Akshara
You would make an obvious mistake, almost always, when you think the world outside is independent of you.

If you see a brand new car parked on the road, glistening in sunshine, it is not just because of only the sunlight, but also because of you.

Your mind gives life to what you see, hear, smell, taste and touch. Your self from inside flows through the mind and reaches the object outside. Indeed and action it gets filtered by your mind in between the subject (self) and object (the car).

Just like a projector plugged in to a power socket nearby, the mind is plugged into your consciousness (self). The projector cannot function without the electricity and so is your mind which cannot function without consciousness.

While the movie projector sends light beams to show images on a plain white screen, your mind is projecting ideas, opinions, beliefs on the canvas of the world.

Did you notice, that you immediately comment on just about everything you see around you as good, bad, right, wrong, hopeless and incredible? That comment is the projection of the mind.

While the self enables your eyes to see the object, your mind goes on with the commentary. The projection and commentary are endless. These abilities called Vikshepa Shakti (power the mind).

The hitch is, your mind’s projection and commentary need not be always right, however much you take them for real and try hard as you can to impose it on others too.

That’s why the same world appears differently to different people. The same life is experienced with such differences amongst all human beings.

To stop projecting is to ask for the impossible to happen to you at the start.

But certainly, I can suggest to you to be aware of this projection and commentary when they happen. And voila! That’s the beginning of a whole new perception in you, towards life.

A beginning where you would want to see the sunrise as sunrise and not as a beautiful sunrise, that the prime time serial on the television has actors enacting roles and not real life characters.

You would come around soon to figure out the fact that you have dumped your whim and fancy upon just about everything you come face to face with. You have created a surreal world of your own.

Its a kind of a dream with your eyes open, watching this world in a manner that your mind personally interprets to you. As long as the mind is at work, there will be projections invariably.

But not as much as a mind that knew and is in awareness of the projections. Projection happens in both, the ignorant and the aware mind.

But a mind in awareness now has stopped the projection of its own but allows the consciousness(self) alone to flow through itself to reach the objects.

The meditative mind is able to see this world as it is. It projects the consciousness alone without any distortion. However, even after that, you would still be commenting on the world and your experiences, but you will know that its just for the sake of it and you don’t really mean to comment that way.
